Transportation Insurance Services For Emerging Industries
February 15, 2023 12:00 pmThe world is on the cusp of change.
There are whispers of another industrial revolution.
Whatever it may be, and whenever it may come, industries as we know it will likely change magnificently.
You already know some of the things that come to mind, electronics and data processing of all kinds, artificial intelligence, green energy changes, and even biological changes.
How will this change the future of transportation? Who will drive vehicles? Will there even be a driver? Will there even be a steering wheel?
Transportation insurance services will change with these changes, let’s take a look at where it will likely happen.
Autonomous Vehicles
When you think of the future of transportation, the average American jumps directly to autonomous cars. That’s already clear and in the works in the case of Tesla cars and other car companies practicing and training AI to use cars effectively.
Naturally, we used to always assume that someone is driving a car. So if you hit that person’s car, insurance will be brought into the picture.
But what about a self-driving car? Who is at fault if the car is simply going to pick up a passenger? The company who made the vehicle? The passenger who requested it?
What about commercial vehicles like autonomous semi-trucks?
Transportation is changing, and as insurance providers we need to be on the edge of it.
Trains + Drone
While America has heavily reduced its dependency on trains for the last half century, they may come back with a reckoning. All the pavement and all the traffic we’ve sat in for decades now is starting to get old.
Engineers, planners, and visionaries all try to come up with a solution to traffic, congestion, and car pollution and end up reinventing something we already have – trains.
Trains play a huge role in transportation in Europe, China, and Japan already. But they have a huge deficiency – they are relatively unable to bridge the “last mile”, which is the gap between dropping off supplies and bringing them to whoever the customer is.
Besides trucks usually taking this role, we have a new contender – drones!
But this changes things once again for the transportation industry, which relies massively on commercial truck transportation right now – who insures and is responsible for a bad drone?
